If you don’t have much time to spare but would like to explore one of the most spectacular national parks in Thailand, we highly recommend this trip. We explore the most stunning areas of the park; lush green jungle with abundant flora and fauna, Royal Agricultural Project where local villagers plant fruit, vegetables and flowers that can’t be seen anywhere else in Thailand, plenty of rice terraces, and even coffee plantations. An abundance of sights to take in in just one day!

Route 1: Pagodas & Karen village

Level: Easy hike *recommend for families*

This moderate hike is suitable for families with young children and is the perfect way to spend a day in nature.”

Overview: This trip takes you to the highest summit in Thailand, which sits at an elevation of 2565 meters above sea level. It is suitable for those who are looking for a moderate hike of 1.5-2 hours and want to explore the beauty of the national park. You will visit the summit point, pagodas, the Royal Agriculture Project, a Karen village, and have the opportunity to try some organic tea and coffee. You may also visit a waterfall, depending on the time available. This is a good day trip for families with young children, as the hiking is not too challenging.
Itinerary:
Pick-up from your hotel at 7:00 am
1.5-2 hour drive to the summit, followed by a short hike around the area
Hike at Kew Mae Pan for approximately 2 hours, or choose to hike the Pa Dok Saew trail (depending on the season and your interests)
Have lunch in the area
Visit the Royal Agriculture Project, which was established by the previous king of Thailand to help local people improve their incomes and protect the forest
Visit Mae Klang Luang Karen village, where you can explore the village and learn about the traditional culture and way of life of the Karen people. Visit a school and try some organic tea and coffee.
If time permits, visit a waterfall on the way back
2 hour drive back to your hotel

Route 2: Tiger Head Trail

Duration: 5-7 hours

“Explore the breathtaking landscapes of the Doi Inthanon National Park on the Tiger Head trail. Hike through stunning views and visit a local Karen village, where you can try some delicious organic coffee. Take a break at a local waterfall along the Pha Dok Saew trail, and enjoy a unique lunch served in banana leaves at the peak. This moderate hike is suitable for those who are in good physical condition and looking for a day filled with nature and culture.”

This hiking trip is suitable for those who enjoy moderate hiking and are in good physical condition. The hike involves climbing up and down the Tiger Head trail, which is a non-touristy area with stunning panoramic views from the peak. During the hike, you will visit a Karen village and have the opportunity to try some organic fresh coffee. You will also see a waterfall along the Pha Dok Saew trail (which may be touristy).
Unfortunately, if we do not have enough time to visit the pagodas or the peak of the national park, we may visit a waterfall if there is time left.
Itinerary:
Pick up from your hotel at 7:00 am and drive for 1.5 hours to the Doi Inthanon National Park and the starting area for the hike
Hike up along the local trail for 2 hours to the peak of the Tiger Head trail, where you will have a lovely lunch served in banana leaves with amazing panoramic views and some time to relax
Hike down the local trail to Mae Klang Luang Karen village, where you can try local organic tea or coffee and explore the village to learn about the culture and history of the Karen people
Continue with the Pha Dok Saew trail for another 1.5 hours, taking a break at a local waterfall along the way
Drive back to your hotel for approximately 1.5 hours

 

Route3: Pha Ngaem 2 Seasons Summit

Area: Doi Inthanon National Park (Pha Ngaem 2 Seasons Summit)

Duration: 6-7 hours
Fitness Level: 5 (must be fit and ready for a challenge)

Overview:
This is a challenging hiking trip in the Doi Inthanon National Park in Thailand, in the Pha Ngaem 2 seasons summit area
The hike is rated as a level 5 in terms of fitness, so participants must be in good physical condition
The hike involves climbing up and down heights of 1600-2200 meters above sea level, with beautiful panoramic views and the opportunity to see local seasonal flowers and plants
The hike will take approximately 6-7 hours
Itinerary:
Pick-up from your hotel at 7:00 am
1.5 hour drive to the Hmong Khun Wang area
Hike up to the top of the mountain, taking approximately 3-4 hours (depending on your fitness level)
Have a unique lunch served in banana leaves at the top, with a great view (depending on the season)
Hike down the mountain for approximately 2 hours
If time permits, visit a hill tribe village or waterfall on the way back

Pickup & drop off

Pick up and drop off in Chiang Mai city is included in the price for this trip. Pick up and drop off locations include accommodations in Chiang Mai city (15 km area around the old city centre), Chiang Mai airport, Chiang Mai train station and bus stations.

If you would like us to pick you up outside of Chiang Mai city, for instance in Mae Rim, Sankampaeng and similar, additional charges might apply, please enquire about options.

We eat lunch at a local restaurant and sample several Thai dishes.

If you have any kind of dietary restrictions, let us know in advance, and we will make sure to provide suitable meals for you. We can cater to most dietary restrictions and prepare vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, milk free meals and more.

Guides
Your private guide will be with you at all times, from pick up to drop off. He is local and speaks good English and will be able to tell you a lot about local plants, animals, culture and traditions. He will also adjust trekking route and difficulty according to your wishes, but please let us know in advance how long and difficult you would like your trek to be, so we can prepare a suitable route. You will also have an assisting guide.

Itinerary for day trip to Doi Inthanon is highly flexible and can be customized in a number of ways to suit your wishes.

Itinerary with less trekking

We have a two hour trek before lunch and a 1.5 hour trek in the afternoon.

Itinerary without trekking

This itinerary is suitable for families with little children or those who are not interested in trekking. Itinerary includes: Mae Ya waterfall, peak of Doi Inthanon, King and Queen pagodas, Mae Klang Luang village, Royal Agricultural Project, and Watchiratan waterfall.

Itinerary with more trekking

For the trekking enthusiasts! We skip the long drive to the peak and to the pagodas which leaves us with more time for a good trek. We will choose an appropriate trekking routes based on your wishes and current season.

Adding elephant camp and/or bamboo rafting

We will adjust the itinerary as required to accommodate for the extra time these activities take.
Additional price for bamboo rafting is 500 THB per person, additional price for a visit to elephant camp (feeding and bathing the elephants) is 1,000 THB per person, and additional price for both activities is 1,400 THB per person.
